Student Direct Stream (SDS) – Essential Updates
Canada Ends Streamlined Visa Programs: Canada has announced the end of its Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Nigeria Student Express (NSE) visa programs, affecting students from countries like India, Pakistan, and Nigeria.
What Were SDS & NSE?
- SDS: Launched in 2018, the SDS was designed to expedite study permit processing for students from 14 countries, including India, with strong academic and financial profiles.
- NSE: A similar program for Nigerian students, aimed at streamlining the process for those with solid academic and financial qualifications.
New Process Starting November 8, 2024:
- All international students, including those previously eligible for SDS or NSE, must now apply through Canada’s regular study permit stream.
- Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs) will still be accepted as proof of financial support, a key requirement under SDS.
- Applications submitted before the cut-off will continue to be processed under SDS or NSE.
Impact on Students:
Without SDS or NSE, students may face longer processing times and additional paperwork, potentially affecting application timelines and start dates.
